How to Make Oobleck

How to Make Oobleck

Hi there, this is Katie. Have you ever made oobleck with your kids or when you were a kid? My 1st grader made it for a science activity this past week and loved it. My teen also came to play with it.

What is oobleck? It’s a mixture of cornstarch and water. That’s it. But the consistency is solid when pressure is applied (or you play with it) and then it turns into a liquid when you’re not playing with it. It’s the funnest, weirdest thing to play with and a great cheap science experiment for the kids to explore.

This thrifty experiment costs less than $1 to do. The cornstarch was 97 cents at Walmart and I didn’t use the whole canister of it.

How to make oobleck:

Put 2 cups cornstarch into a bowl.

Measure out 1 cup water (if you want it to be colored add the food coloring to your water)

Add the water to the cornstarch. It should be a thick consistency when you stir and should “pour” or “melt” off your spoon just like a liquid. If it’s too dry add a little more water.
