When I was a fry cook’s son, the first in my family to go to an Ivy league college, I didn’t just get a full-ride scholarship. To me it was like a ticket to outer space. Though it’s hard to say who was the alien. The kids I met from the expensive prep schools. Or me. That was my lens watching Richard Branson’s PR stunt this past weekend. For the record there was one person of color on board Branson’s flight on Sunday. One out of six? The numbers still don’t sound terribly diverse. So thank God for Sirisha Bandla. Bandla, 34, immigrated with her family from India as a young girl when her father, an academic, came to America....
I walked into a supermarket yesterday and picked up a bag of so called ‘Trail Mix’ just to check the contents – it ran heavy to little buttons of white chocolate, with raisins and peanuts scattered through the mix between the pops of color from sugar coated candies. Seriously, if someone ate this on the trail they would be searching for water superfast after all that sweetness. White chocolate is just pretty much pure sugar and fat, running high to carbs with only 1% of the recommended daily dietary fiber allowance in a 1.2 ounce (35g) serving. As for the raisins, well, they are fiber rich and contain plenty of vitamins and minerals but they are high in sugar. I’m...
The 5 senses are one of my favorite subjects to teach because it sparks so many fun discussions. As children learn about sight, sound, taste, smell and touch, they become much more aware of the world around. These playful 5 senses sorting mats are great to use for review at the end of a 5 senses unit like this favorite one! For more science fun, check out our 30 Science Experiments (complete with a no prep journal to record results!) in our shop! Getting Ready To prep the activity, I simply printed and cut apart the cards. You can also laminate for extra durability. I purposefully made the cards four to a page so they would be big enough for...
Paul started taking CBD because he wanted to be a better father. The New Jersey dad of two's high-pressure, high-rewards job was taking a toll. Work days left him feeling depleted and on edge. He'd get home wired and checked out, feeling like it was impossible to be patient with his boys. "You go from one job to the next," he said. "You go to work all day and come home to a five and a seven year old and they were at their job all day — school — and now they want to turn it up and rage."Paul hoped the hemp-derived product, which is said to reduce anxiety, would help him find the peace of mind he needed...
