A recent national survey found that over 70 percent of American families will be engaged in some form of homeschooling this fall. I don't know what the number is for families of preschool aged children, but I'm assuming it's similar. Most schools are going to be relying on some version of online instruction, which from where I sit, and from where the school-agers in my life sit, and from where the pubic school teachers I've spoken with sit, is pretty close to useless, although, perhaps in some ways, for some kids, is better than nothing at all. As for preschoolers, medical professionals recommend no more than one hour of screen time per day, which is probably moot given that this is...
Recently, I've noticed that my kids and I have been more irritable than normal. We're jumpy and on edge, and just fight more. Knowing that my kids may just need a little more TLC, I took it upon myself to conduct an experiment. My husband and I would each spend 10 minutes alone with one of our two children every single day. The next day, we'd flip-flop kids. And I have to tell you, it's already worked magic in our home. After my husband and I chatted about it, we conducted a brief family meeting with the kids to inform them of the plan. Their eyes grew with wonder and excitement. I could see their minds turning and ideas forming....
Hash Brown Frittata We miss our grandmother. She never runs out of hugs and homemade pinya candies. She also cooks the most comforting frittata. Oh, each spoonful is wonderfully hearty and healthy – a chock-full of newly harvested tomatoes and potatoes – that make us feel comforted, cared for, and loved. Inay, the way we call our grandmother, would always prepare our favorite dishes. Watching her move in the kitchen when were kids made us love cooking. We used to stay beside her and her big pugon as she cooks. Many decades have passed, and now, we cook for our five boys just like how our Inay cooks for us – full of love. Cooking is an Art When we are in...
Well, this is a bit different to the life we’ve been leading for the last few months. A day out at a theme park you say? That’s not in Chingford? How very extreme. I’ll admit I was a little nervous when reading TripAdvisor reviews about what a Covid deathtrap the whole thing was but we figured we could always cut it short if it didn’t safe. It was like we’d be losing any actual money because we’d paid for our tickets using Clubcard vouchers (there’s been something of an uptick in the Tesco spend since all of us starting being home for every meal). As it turned out, it wasn’t too bad as long as we were sensible and other...
You think you’re in control of your diet, but the truth is that you have far less control than you believe. There are four factors that dramatically influence what foods you consume, and unfortunately, they rarely align with your health and fitness goals. 1. COST Have you ever eaten something just because it was free? Exactly! Beyond the allure of free food, what you can afford to purchase limits where you shop, eat, and what food you buy. It’s natural to look for value and compare similar items when shopping for food or eating out. The question is whether a preference for savings is negatively impacting what goes into your body. Unfortunately, lower quality, more processed food is often cheaper...
