Science Experiments for Teens

I’m really excited about this brilliant collection of science experiments for teens! My eldest son is 13, so I’ve tried to choose activities that I know he has enjoyed recently and some to challenge even older children as well! If you have an older child with younger siblings one idea is to ask them to create an activity for the younger ones or even set up their own science lesson with a plan and resources. Science projects using technology Homemade Phone Speaker This homemade iPhone speaker has been a huge hit in our house. We’ve tried using different types of cups and changing the length of the cardboard tube to see how that changes the sound. It’s a great science...

What we know about schoolkids and coronavirus

As schools and parents struggle with the decision to reopen in-person classes, what do we know about kids' vulnerability? Here's everything you need to know: Can children get COVID-19? Yes, but the evidence strongly suggests that children are less prone to infection by the coronavirus than adults. Those under 18 account for about 6 percent of confirmed cases in the U.S., despite constituting some 22 percent of the population, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That figure is somewhat higher than numbers from China, where children and teens accounted for 2.2 percent of confirmed cases, Italy (1.2 percent), and Spain (0.8 percent). The Homemakers Heart - the garden and prep for the week ahead...

Lisa at Downshiftology.Anyhow, I have since dabbled in a bit of meal prep, but this weekend...

High school football: Duchesne Eagles 2020 preview

Here’s an in-depth look at the Duchesne Eagles football team heading into the 2020 season. Note: Duchesne finished with a 10-2 record in 2019 and was first in 2A North with a 5-0 record. It was RPI seed No. 4 in the 2A playoffs, and was eliminated by Beaver 14-7 in semifinals. SANDY — After narrowly losing in the 2A semifinal last year to undefeated Beaver, Duchesne is ready to roll in 2020. “We lost in the semifinals to Beaver, the team that won it. I thought we played them better than any team. We lost a 7-point game that we had chances to win. It didn’t end the way we wanted it, but I think we played really well...

Why We Never Have Enough Time & What to Do About It

Everyone I know has this problem: there never seems to be enough time in the day for everything we need or want to do. We have a pile of tasks and projects to do, endless messages and emails to respond to, and even if we work with focus and no distractions (that’s a huge “if”) … there’s not enough time. Let’s say you happen to find time after work and on weekends, to do non-work stuff, like reading and exercise and meditating and learning new things and taking up a hobby … well, then you find that the time you create for this stuff is never enough, you have too much that you want to do and there’s still not...
