EASY Homemade Rolls

This is a simple, homemade roll recipe that my family devours. We like to make cinnamon butter for them sometimes, too. I hope your family loves them as much as we do!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk (I use 2%)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (local honey is delicious, if available)
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour – 3 1/2 cups, 1/4 cup and 1/4 cup – keep separate
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 (additional) tablespoon melted butter, if desired, for brushing on top of rolls

Directions

  • 1. In a saucepan, add the water, melted butter, milk and honey. Stir until combined. Heat until temperature reaches 105°-110°F. (Do not allow temperature to go above 110° or the yeast may not activate properly.)
  • 2. Pour into the bowl of a stand mixer and sprinkle the active dry yeast on top of the mixture. Give it a quick stir with a fork and allow to sit for 5 minutes while the yeast activates and becomes “foamy”.
  • 3. Add only 3 1/2 cups of flour to the liquid mixture and stir on medium using the dough-hook attachment of stand mixer, until combined. Add another 1/4 cup flour and stir until combined. Finally, add remaining 1/4 cup flour and stir until combined.
  • 4. Form dough into large ball and place in lightly greased bowl. Cover with a damp kitchen towel and allow to rise for 15 minutes. While dough is rising, prepare a 9×13 baking dish by lightly spraying with cooking spray.
  • 5. Take the dough out of bowl and punch down on clean surface. Using a biscuit cutter (or 3” cookie cutter) cut out 15 pieces that are roughly the same size and roll each into a ball. Then, place each ball into the prepared baking dish.
  • 6. Cover the dish with a damp kitchen towel and let the dough rise for 17 minutes. Set oven to 400°F and allow to heat up while dough rises.
  • 7. Uncover and bake in 400°F oven for 14 minutes, or until rolls are light golden brown on top and cooked through.
  • 8. If desired, brush tops of rolls with melted butter. TIP: Transfer rolls to wire cooling rack to cool completely, so the bottoms don’t become soggy. Serve and enjoy!
