Last week was my birthday week, and coupled with that-which-shall-not-be-named, I decided to make one of my favorite, and least often consumed meals: Fried Chicken and Mash, with Country Gravy

This is definitely a special occasion recipe, but in the light of present times, and it being my birthday, I felt a treat was in order. Instead of going with traditional fried chicken, I decided to mix it up a bit with a twist on the Southern classic, Chicken Fried Steak. Chicken Fried Chicken is something I occasionally ordered while dining out at various country style restaurants back in Texas. It’s a very comforting meal and very nostalgic for me. This recipe requires a bit of prep work, but it is absolutely scrumptious! Ingredients For the Chicken: 2 chicken breasts, pounded down to 1/2 to 1/4 in thick 2 cups AP flour 1/4 cup fresh thyme, stems removed and rough...

5 Fashion Insiders Share Their Most Beloved Recipe

The world is full of chaos and uncertainty at the moment, but if there’s one thing that remains a much-needed, reliable constant, it’s the collective comfort that cooking and baking offers us. From Rosie Assoulin’s family lentil soup recipe to sixth-generation Floridian Gigi Burris’ sour orange pie (an old Florida classic), here’s what the fashion set is serving...

Dairy-free Chocolate "Cake".

Today is Easter Sunday. I’m sure everyone is thinking the same thing, “Man this is weird.” We’re in quarantine, on lock down, or have a stay-at-home order in most places. Initially, I was going to write about what it’s like to experience this sort of global pandemic while living with anxiety, but I decided that instead, I’d put on 90’s gospel (Fred Hammond mostly) and bake a cake. So, here we are. I haven’t always struggled with lactose, but since I was about 25, my stomach has been saying, “No ma’am.” to anything that has it. After a few years, I decided to stop fighting it. If I’m dying for ice cream, I take Lactaid. If a friend makes a...

Gigi’s Fudgy Chocolate Brownies!

Well, Easter under lockdown has been and gone and, to be honest, has not been the Easter with the most treats for some of us! Whether you’re locked down in a remote area, in a country where you’re momentarily not allowed out at all, or in a flat by yourself, distancing yourself from your usually nearest and dearest, this recipe is for you! For all of us who have been social distancing like pro’s and who need a little ‘pick-me-up’ having not given or recieved the usual umpteeeeen mini eggs, chocolate bunnies, and other confectionaries, these brownies are the ultimate bake-once, forget-never!! My week-long craving for some choccies resulted rather underwhelmingly in a nonetheless very thoughtfull little bag of mini...
